The romance writing community, and especially the RWA, offer numerous opportunities to learn. Whether it is an online workshop to hone one's craft or better understand the business, a contest to receive valuable feedback, or a conference to immerse oneself in every type of avenue to improve, there is something for everyone. These pages list only a few of the possibilities, but it is a great place to start!
YRW's First
Romantic Writing Contest!

We hope you enjoy YRW's brand new, fun contest,
The Smooch, where each year’s theme will change to bring entertaining unpredictability to readers and judges alike.
This year’s theme, a first sentence beginning with “You want me to do what?”, is a perfect send-off for the genesis of our contest for chapter members only this first round.
Enjoy!
The contest is open to YRW members unpublished in fiction in the last five years. A maximum of two entries per person are allowed.
Your entry must be double-spaced with one-inch margins. Use a standard 12-pt font. The header on each page must contain the story title, story word count, and page number. Your name should not appear anywhere on the page.
All entries are to be electronic. A .doc file is preferred, but a .rtf file will also be accepted.
A minimum of three entries must be received in order for the contest to proceed.
All entries will begin with the first line, “You want me to do what?”
All entries that do not begin with the first sentence, “You want me to do what?” will be eliminated.
Entries will be short stories not to exceed 1500 words.
All genres will be accepted.

Entry must be received no later than 5:00 PM PT on Saturday, January 1, 2011.
Email entry as an attachment to sherihumphreys@sbcglobal.net.

Each entry will be judged by at least two preliminary judges. The preliminary judges will be either RWA PRO members, individuals with previous experience judging RWA fiction contests or published authors. The three top scoring entries will also be judged by final judge Debra Salonen.
Results will be tabulated by the contest coordinators.
In the event of a first place tie, Debra Salonen will determine the overall winner.
Evaluations will be returned to the entrants no later than Feb. 26, 2011.
